Anyone else noticed sluggish performance with AE7 compared to 6.5.1??
I’ve been toying around with the AE7 trial for a few days. I’ve installed
it in both my laptop (PM 1.7GHz, Radeon M9200) and desktop (P 2.8GHz,
    Radeon 9700Pro) computers.

I have some high-resolution bitmap animations using multiple layers and
effects. The problem is, scrubbing the timeline in AE7 is at least two
times slower that in 6.5.1, making AE7 impossible to use in my work.
I’ve tried all possible OpenGL and preview settings but nothing seems
    to help.

Anyone got a clue what has Adobe changed to make the new AE so much
    slower?

One thing I noticed is that on my desktop computer, AE lists all
more accurate capabilities in opengl info as unsupported. However,
on Adobe’s compatibility list it says only AA and MB are unsupported
on Radeon 9700. I have the latest Catalyst drivers so what might
be causing this? However even if I get this fixed it wouldn’t help
on my laptop which as a 9200 chipset… Seems like something is
    just broken/bloated on AE7…

I really don’t understand larger companies…they work hard to have a great product that people like and want to purchase…then they get big and powerful based on the success of the product and other products like it…but then at the apex of success when they can go to the next level….they plug a stick in their customers eye…I am so bummed about ae7…no new 3d engine, no 3d primitives no new nothing….what the heckle do we need adobe bridge for…and no support for mac intel….I hate to say it but Adobe has blown it…and their ship is sinking and in deep water…so long Adobe…thanks for the fish..

Ya and it doesn’t come with a new desk, cook my lunch, or even let me model a fully photo realistic 3D environment that I can magically track my green screen footage to!! Man what a piece of junk 😉

I use AE every day. Been using it since version 2. Obviously, everyone is entitled to an oppinion, but as far as I’m concerned the new 7.0 interface, graph editor and linear blending is worth the upgrade alone. If you want 3D objects, buy a 3D app or even one of the Zaxwerks applications. No app does everything, and the ones that come close are in a different price tier than AE. If you use AE all the time, you may start to change your mind. There really have been a lot of great little tweeks added. Any upgrade that costs less than 1 day of my billing rate and improves my workflow is well worth it.
