I am working on a project that I am timing to music. I have a clip that is just a tad too fast and so I wanted to slow down the speed a bit. I have some clips all timed out further ahead in the timeline. When I change the speed of the clip I’m editing it bumps everything down the timeline and doesn’t lock up with the song.

I know there is a way to insert clips that won’t disturb the timeline. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

That’s called “rippling the timeline” and unfortunately that’s the way FCP versions 1 thru 6 have always worked. Thanks to my input and that of several others, Apple has changed that in version 7, and you can now toggle that method of operation on or off.

If you are using FCP version 1 to 6 then you have several options, the easiest being to move the clip to an empty sequence or to the end of timeline before adjusting the speed, then move it back into position in your sequence.

I have a similar issue, only more in reverse…as a wedding videographer, my edits are always slowed down, typically to about 65%. Before I upgraded to FCP7, I would simply select all my clips and copy the speed setting to make them all slower. With FCP7, it does not allow you to ripple the timeline (even by choice) to keep the in & out points the same but change the clip speed. it seems that I must change the speed of each clip individually!! This is very frustrating as I have SO MANY clips to change…. Is there any work-around that I am simply missing???
