Slow Transfer of Panasonic HDC-HS300
Hello all,
Just got a couple of Panasonics new HDC-HS300’s. I did some test shooting to see what they could do (the images are really nice, not like my EX1 by any means but impressive for what they are). I plugged in the camera via its USB port and started importing with the log and transfer tool….. It seems to be going soooo slow. Real time at best. My EX1 transfers at 7x real time. Am I missing something here. Why is this taking so long? Do I have a setting out of whack?Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I’d suspect is USB.

I’ve connected that camera with USB to my MacPro and used the Panasonic app to get the footage onto a FW drive. That’s my archive copy. I seem to recall an 8GB card took under 5 minutes. Then I used Log and Transfer to create the editing version of the clips I needed to use.

Is that AVCHD? If so, it’s converting to ProRes on ingest. That’s what’s taking so long.

Oops. I thought you were referring to the HPX-300. It’s a DVCPRo HD and AVC-Intra camera. You’d think Panasonic differentiate a little better in the numbering of their cameras. In other words, my comment was totally irrelevant to your problem.

Yes it uses the AVCHD format. Should I setup the project as AVCHD before trying to import? I will play with it some more.

You can’t. Log and transfer automatically converts to ProRes or AIC. It’s the transcode that is taking so long. Sorry, it’s the way it works in FCP.
