    Hi
    Real beginner here.

When I make something move a short distance over a longish time period – say it has to move about 15 pixels over 10 seconds – the movement gets jumpy – especially if the movement is diagonal. If I make the distance longer, the movement looks smoother.

If there is a diagonal movement it seems to go “up – right – up – right” instead of moving diagonally.

Also, if I look at it in the RAM preview, the movement looks perfectly smooth while that green bar draws along the timeline, but jerky when it plays. Also looks jumpy if I render the movie out and play it in an external player.

Composition is 30 frames per second, the thing I am trying to move is a layer from a Photoshop document, (very small), I am using After Effects 6.

    Hi
This is probably part of the same mistake I am making.
I am working on a composition that is a layered Photoshop file that I have imported into AE as a composition.

When I move a section of it – say rotate an arm – it distorts quite badly, it has a sort of “ripple” effect over it. This happens if I RAM preview it and also in the rendered version.

    Thanks

OK – I figured it out myself. I had set the “quality” setting to “draft” and in the “current settings” dialogue box, “quality” was set to “current settings.” Changing these settings to “best” solved my problem.
