I’ve recently noticed a massive slow down in my ram previews. When I render anything from the render queue it seems to go fine, as it always has, but just ram previewing it seems to take an age.

Its not that its slow frame by frame, it just takes ages to respond once I press the Ram preview button. It kinda sits there thinking for several min’s, once its done this it Ram previews it fine at regular speed.

Is this a hardware issue I need to look into? Or is there a vital piece of AE housekeeping I need to be doing to keep this process speedy?

    thanks.

***edit*** I should also add that the comp is very basic, no effects, just some precomposed titles consisting of nothing more than some minor movement, then moving into a pre-rendered video sequence with some small text effects on top. As I said the final output render is speedy, but Ram preview takes an age to actually get going.

Wich OS are you working on ?
Do you use Quicktime files as sources ?

I’ve seen the same thing happen on some of the computers I work on.
Mostly when MultiProcessing is enabled or when updates are done to Quicktime.
I had a hard time getting them to work again, sometimes re-install 🙁

Try to convert your Video-source to an Image sequence and see if it gets better ( to find what’s causing the slow down)
