  Slow RAM preview CC2017

  Hi,
  I have 1m30s animation in After Effects. Involves a map of the UK (3d layer) and the camera flies to specific pins on the map and an information card pops up.

  All fairly simple, see image.

  

  I’m using Malty’s Camera Rig to help control the position of the camera as I fly around to different places.

  it seems to take AGES to RAM preview. I’m using a MacBook Retina (mid2012) with 8GB ram and AECC2017 (version 13.8.1.38)

  Its not a very complex project I don’t have depth of field on or any lighting (yet) but it is almost unworkable in AECC2017.

  (When I applied lights to give depth and shadows it took almost 2 hours to render at 1080p!)

  I did open the project up in AECC 2015.3 This seemed to improve the RAM preview speed ALOT. its a third quicker (I timed it)

  so – anyone else experienced AECC2017 being very slow?

  Also do you think using Malty’s Camera Rig might be slowing the project down? as it seems to be quite expression heavy.

  Maybe I’d be better of just using simple null parenting separate dimensions to control the camera?
