Jenny, I feel your pain. I had the exact same problem on 2 separate projects (see my previous posts in this thread). The only thing that seemed to fix it was keeping FCP at version 6.0.5. For whatever reason going to 6.0.6 caused things to get glitchy. I’m running QuickTime 7.6.4. Don’t know if this makes a difference or not. Sometimes Quicktime can be the culprit of computer weirdness. Good luck.
