    I am new to Sony Vegas, I’m used to Premiere Pro, and I have several questions.

    First, I’m making a short clip for fun that involves a slow motion effect. However, I didn’t find it as simple as in Premiere (or maybe it was After Effects, I can’t recall). I finally figured out to use either the playback rate or undersample, but the help file mentioned the duration limiting it. Simply put: What is the easiest way to make a section of a clip slow motion?

    Also…. What is an event!?! It seems like everything revolves around events, but I can’t figure out what they are! Could someone explain this or point me in the direction of a good tutorial?

    [jhbrewer] “What is the easiest way to make a section of a clip slow motion?”

    Ctrl/drag the in or out point. Done 🙂

    Also do a search or check the help file for Velocity envelopes.

    An event is any timeline element: Media file (trimmed or not), generated media, etc.

    As it re-read and see you are referring to a SECTION of an event;
    you either have to split the event (s key)then Ctrl/drag the section you want to change, or you will need to apply a Velcocity envelope.

    Thanks! I’ve practiced a bit with these velocity envelopes and although it has a learning curve, I’ve found it to be an extremely powerful feature. I’m doing a highlights video for a friend’s backyard football game (set to Numb by Linkin Park!) and I’ve got slow-mo and I actually accidentally found out how to reverse footage, and it all makes for a great effect.

    Thanks so much!

    I also have a full writeup about changing speeds in Vol 1 #9 of my newsletters. If you haven’t, check them out (link under my name).
