  Slow drive FCS3

  OK, I know this is out of date, but here goes.

  2009 iMac
  Closing out my legacy FCP setup, been editing on an “off the shelf” WD My Book for MAC drive..1TB. Have a ton of SD video. Although only connected with USB2, it has been fine for years, but now it has slowed way down. Video won’t play very well. Drive will only transfer smaller files to another hard drive, otherwise it fails when I’ve attempted to transfer a large or quantity of large video files.
  Is there an app/or way to safely retrieve these files to another external drive (on this system no faster that FW800)? Standard copy and paste is just failing too often. Any ideas that might help prevent re-digitized endless hours of 8mm family footage?
