Actually, the viewer funktionality is there, I can open and see my P2 stuff (in 25p!). But I can’t spot the export to QuickTime, under File -> Export there is no option for this.

In HD Log, when you export to Final Cut Pro 4/5 (batch list) or Final Cut Pro XML, the QuickTime files are automatically generated for the clips that you export. They will be saved in a folder that has a “_files” suffix, alongside the batch list or XML file. Also, this isn’t in the demo, but if you choose File -> Save As, then the P2 volume will be saved in the HD Log format and each clip will be converted to QuickTime.

[Uli Plank] “No support from Apple for 25p or 50p, not even a defined schedule.”

I’m also one of those not so satisfyed Europeans that bought hvx in a good faith that apple or panny would offer codecs for it in fcp.
Neither of them did. Maybe I’ll have to sell the camera. For now I will think very carefully before I buy anything from panny ever again and if I’ll have to sell the camera, I won’t even touch anything from panny again…

    Panny Europe’s service is unbelievable.
I asked about this codec issue in 31st of March in their forum.
Got e-mail 21st of April and made additional questions 26th of April.
Maybe I’ll get the answer in June…

I know what you are talking about! I tried to get a camera for our tests at the institute (to be published in a very respected magazine!) and no reply at all.

I finally got it from a very helpful dealer, who even travelled up from Southern Germany to support our tests.

    Best regards,

    Roddy,
I had the same problem on my G4dual1.25 tower, it was the fact that the older macs are not USB 2 but usb1.
I now run my transfers through a 12″ powerbook to a firewire extermal drive.
    Hope this helps,
    Shane..

I too have found that doing direct file transfers via USB2 on my Powerbook 1.67 is very slow (drag and drop). I discovered the P2 Import from P2 Store in FCP provides a significantly faster import via USB.

The bonus of this method is that you do not have all of those locked MXF files on your hard drive.

That’s fine but I like to keep the originals in the Archive with all the Meta data. If you only keep the converted QuickTime you loose all the file info. If you need to delete any of the CLIP TEXT files on the Mac just uncheck the locked button in file info.

The problem is that one folder from a P2 card could have hundreds locked files. Unlocking all of those files would take forever. I wish there was an option to turn off the lock feature.

When you import a P2 volume in HD Log, you can delete clips (select one or more clips and hit the delete key). Deleting clips will automatically unlock and remove the audio, video, clip, icon, voice, and proxy files related to that clip.
