SLOOOW Sluggish CS4
Working on a short trailer for a doc on CS4. Four tracks of video and audio, few effects and color correction and as of couple of days ago was running fine. Now upon hitting play either on the time line or in source window takes a least five seconds to get moving…shuttling doesn’t operate during those time. Had an positive online diagnostic of the system with clean registry, deleted all preview files, degragged drives. Only thing not by the book was approximately 15% of early captures ended up on system drive due to a flash disc assignment screw up. The only files that respond normally are single strand of audio and video.
Only other anomaly is an error message that sometimes crops up:
ERROR PROCESSING MESSAGE c0000083 Parameters 75b6bf7c (last group repeated two more times.
Have a screen shot of that if I knew how to send it!Here’s my SYSTEM specs from Belarc:

I am relatively stunned that your system can enjoy CS4 at all. It is a very old system indeed. I would say a core2duo at bare minimum.
You didn’t mention what kind of media files you are working with or the version of CS4 you are using.
2 gig of ram is not enough really. 4gig which maxes out what’s seen on all 32bit systems is recommended.
Is it possible you have another application running in the BG? 2gig will choke with another app running.
Or maybe you have a virus app running? that can screw things up.
We need to know what you are cutting and how long it is. A long form project can fill up the RAM real quick. Again 2gig just aint enough along with a Pentium D this computer is under spec.

Jon thanks for the reply and sorry about the tardy response I was out a late shoot. First I’m not sure why Belarc is showing only 2 gigs of RAM…there are 4gigs in the system.
The project is a short trailer(less than seven minutes) which in itself is a recut of a previousl version which I have up on YouTube for potential funders.

If you believe the processor is critical I could do that but I am wondering about an uninstall and reinstall with Adobe’s registry cleaner….or…as a last resort, uninstalling and going back to my trusty PP2.
As I’m sure it is very obvious by this point, I’m not very technically sophisticated….Producer, DGA director who started back when we used to cut 2 inch with a miscroscope and has by force of economic circumstance become one-man-band-production company.
