So, I just ran into Newscutter for the first time, and chief among the (many) weirdnesses and annoyances is that I seem only to be able to get into internal, or slip, trimming by shift-clicking the pink rollers. Alt-lassoing only gets into slide mode, and double clicking does nothing at all. Is there a shortcut? Or is this one of those annoying bits of disablement Avid put into the programme to make you wish you’d bought Media Composer?

While we’re at it, anything else useful about NC that might save me a few minutes in the next few days?

Never used a Newscutter, but try selecting the clip in Red arrow segment mode, then entering Trim. Should go into slip. Yellow arrow then trim mode goes into Slide.

Also, check your command palette. In Media Composer you can map Slip Left and Slip Right to your keyboard. It only goes 1 frame at a time, but it’s very, very useful. It will slip all clips on the selected tracks that your position indicator is on. I have mine set to Shift Q and Shift W.

    Michael.

Ah, very good – I’ll give it a go tomorrow. I know about the single/10-fr. slip keys – they’re there by default on the MC keyboard. I was hoping – vainly I suspect – for some kind of preview window, as in trim mode.
