  • Slipping Angles in Multicam – Is it possible?

Okay, thought i’d give FCP X a proper go. I have a small music video to edit. I have 6 takes from a live performance. I have a mastered track.

I can set up the angles, audio etc,.

But because i’m dealing with 6 live performances then each track is slightly different timing throughout and so when i cut to a different angle i want to tweak that angle a little to get lip sync correct.

I know i can change the edit point but i want to be able to ‘slip’ that particular cut a little. Not uniform over the whole angle which i could have done when lining up the takes in the multi cam part.

    Is this actually even possible?

    cheers

Well if you had the talent lip sync it would be easier but if you can just don’t use the audio front the multi angle clip, instead have you audio separately. Then you can slip the video all you need to.

Unfortunately you can’t slip video to a subframe, so I’m sure it is going to be a little off.

Sadly that wasn’t possible as prior to the session the track didn’t exist. Yes, i know it’s not ideal but that’s what i’m left with.

I can strip the finalised audio track separately no problem, but how do I slip the video in a multi cam set up?

i.e. so i have one multi cam track where i’m bouncing between angles, but in one of the angles i want to nudge the video within the multi cam edit back and forth a bit. I’ve not been able to work out how to do this?

    thanks

To do what you’re talking about, you need the audio to be a connected clip in the timeline as opposed to being part of the multiclip. Technically, I’d leave the audio in the multiclip, but then add it again to the timeline.

From there, you can silence the audio track in the multiclip, and just edit picture. With the picture edited, you can select any clip and slip or slide it just as you would with any other clip. Hit T to activate the trim tool. Click a clip in the middle to activate slip, OPT+click to activate slide.

    Andy,

Thanks. I managed to work out that i could slip the video without it affecting other edits but the tip on connecting the audio in the main timeline was a good one. Saved me a little head scratching!

    cheers
