Slightly Underexposed Footage Needs Brightening in FCP7
Ugh! I was going to shoot a talking head job in a friend’s studio with my camera but for emergency reasons I had to use his FS100 at the last minute, no time for pre-pro, etc. just thrust into my hands. I had never seen one before, he set me up using his 24″ computer monitor for focus and exposure and it looked great ON THE MONITOR. No wave form unfortunately.
So far I transfered the native AVCHD files through Clip Wrap to Apple Pro Res 422. I’m using FCP7 (I have no other programs) on a 27″ iMac and I just can’t get it looking good using the basic Brightness & Contrast Filter. I know it should be OK but my post skills aren’t that great. I’m guessing it’s 1 to 1.5 stops under at 1080/30P. It was a simple black background with a gradated light for a grey glow in bottom half of frame.
Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks! Right now I am doing a lengthy render so I can’t get at those controls. I figured there must be something better than just B & C.

The 3-way Color Corrector is the way to deal with this. But it’s really only good for minor tweaks. If you need to dig into an image to make it brighter and look good, you either need to use Color, or a plugin called COLORISTA from redgiantsoftware…or hire a colorist. Tweak it yourself first, but if it needs more help, you might need to hire that help.
