So you’ve just finished your “Gone with the Wind” or a DeMille extravagaza and you’ve mastered it to DVD. It’s an amazing piece of editing and it’s time to provide a preview copy for the client.

What experience with specific products (that don’t cost a small fortune) has people had with stand-alone labelling equipment for the one-off diskette for “the client.”

Which equipment works, are reliable and aren’t going to die after 10 copies. Also, the ink supplies seem to be very expensive, even if the machine isn’t.

Suggestions, collective wisdom or other discussion locations appreciated as always.

I use a Canon i965 inkjet which can print directly onto printable CDs and DVDs. There are cheaper alternatives with the same facility.

Results in my case are excellent and the Canon label-print software makes design a brezze.

Epson photo 200 – 300 etc. It is inkjet ink but DVD’s are not that large. Their Print CD program is nice enough. Otherwise create the image in photoshop.

Question about the Canon – is the ink waterproof? If you rub it with a wet finger does it smudge? The Epsons do smudge.

The best labeling software I have found is Discus Labeler.

I have tried dozens and this is slicker than snot…
It has layouts for most printers and labels, including the R200 and Premira Bravo which is a very slick automatic printer that does one offs just fine.

I agree with Mike . . . I use Discus as well and it’s great!

I have had no problems with smudging of labels from the Canon, and I use mostly compatible inks rather than the expensive Canon originals. Neither have there been any complaints from customers about any of the hundreds of CDs and DVDs I have produced with this printer

However, I’ve just tried rubbing a sample quite roughly with a wet finger, and I did generate a smudge. There are products available to cover the label with a waterproof layer after printing if this is an issue.

The Epsons smudge, but again nobody has compained. Just hoping that maybe there was a better low cost solution.
