Slightly OT – Hardware Queries
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I have a question I can’t find a
quick answer to…I use PP 1.5.
Gear wise, I have a pentium 3.2, 2 gigs ram – firewire for DV input. 20
dollar audio card.My projects usually involve around 20 hours of tape digitized, and cut
into 1 hour programs.I sometimes feel like everything will crash under its own weight. But in
the end, it seems to do the job – real time playback, fairly quick
rendering…So here’s the question:
Should I upgrade my hardware? I’d spend a couple of grand if I thought
there would be an appreciable improvement in the final product. But for
people who buy more pro hardware, what are the advantages? Faster
rendering?
Any increase in the quality of the final product if cut on a better machine?Should I stick with what I got?
Any avice on better hardware and reasons to spend the money would be
greatly appreciated.Cheers,

There is a benchmark site that allows you to see what other Premiere Pro users are editing on. And you see the time differences in rendering and exporting.

In my opinion for 20 hrs! all you need is bigs SATA HD’s and keep it clean. (Defrag periodically). Run a registry cleaning from time to time (Registry Mechanic or RegVac Reg. cleaner)and don’t have your editing PC connected to internet to avoid a possible virus.
