Slightly OT: DVCPro gear/upgrading
I’m working at a place that has a DVCPro 25 camera and deck, a few questions. I’ve been wrestling with the camera for a while, going through the manual and menus, can’t find a way to get a single lav via XLR to feed to both channels.
On the deck, it has a FireWire card and what looks like an RS422 plug in it, instead of the RS 232 as in the manual. Could that be what it is? Also, it seems to drop frames sometimes, is it worth taking this in for a checkup?
This equipment is about 6 years old, and short of replacing it, I am working on a proposal to get us through the next 5 years or so. I have been using a Canon A1 on my stuff for a while with a Kona LH, and although my deliverables have mostly been SD, the work looks great, plus I have the HD when I need it. So, I am trying to spec a system to help move things forward at this other gig. Here, all our work is delivered SD, but I still think having some sort of HD source is a good thing. Any thoughts?
Have a wonderful day.
