Slight flicker on Cross Dissolve
Hello,
I have a problem with cross dissolve. I’m working in FCP 7. I have two clips and I apply a cross dissolve. The effect works, except there is a slight darkening happening for the length of the dissolve, it’s very undesired. Does anyone know, is it a bug? Or how else can I get rid of the darkening?

What codec are your clips and what are your sequence settings?

Aha! I had different codec settings for the sequence than the clips. Now that both are H.264 the darkening is gone. Thanks very much!

H264 is not an editing format that FCP likes. You really should be using ProRes or something compatible or you could end up having any number of issues. I quick search here for FCP7 H264 editing will reveal a world of pain.

If for any chance, your sequence codec is H264 (that shouldn’t be because FC do not supports H264), change it to Prores and in the “video Processing” taba, change “Render in 8b YUV” or “Render all YUV in High Precision”.
I don’t unedrstand why H264, being a YUV codec, asks to be rendered in RGB.

Hi there!
I was having the same problem. I tried what Rafael Amador said. I changed my “Video processing” to “Render all YUV material in high precision” and it worked. Renders seem to take longer, though.
I’m using a 1920,1080i sequence with AppleProRes 422. I’m using only photos (jpeg and tiff) to make a video.
I would like to hear from you if I’m doing the right thing. Thanks!
