I need to do a peppy popping slide show that will be used as supporting material for a grant award for a non-profit.

What tools/extensions are out there to get this done quickly ?

Is any of those able to create a timeline that I can then later edit/modify to add additional effects on top ?

Besides Vegas Pro, I have Vegas Movie Studio around, which as far as I understand has a slide show generator. Would it be an advisable option to start the slide show in Movie Studio, and then import it into Vegas Pro ?

Has anybody tried to use Adobe Lightroom for creating a slide-show and then delivering on DVD ?

It really depends on what you’re trying to do. In short, Vegas can do pretty much anything you’d want to do in video; “slideshow” programs may create something much faster, but they’re not as powerful.

I have some example: here’s a “slideshow” (except for the end) I did for my company. This was rushed… I had less than a day to figure out what to do with fairly little actual content, and also create and record some custom music for it. Vegas was absolutely the right tool for this:

Here’s another I did from a large collection of photographs. This took more than a day, but it’s the only way to build a really creative slide show. An automated program can drop in a random transition between photos, but it’s not going to know the best way to pan through an image, how to line up features from one to another to make the transition more interesting, etc.

Thanx for sharing some inspirations with me. Seems like a shared theme. Not a lot of material and not a lot of time.

You should check out ProShowGold at photodex.com. The software is intended for slideshows primarily. It works with videos too.
It is made by pros. You will find a plethora of slide show examples made with ProShowGold on the youtube. I recommend spending some time on their youtube channel to see what can be done with the software.
You can purchase dvds with extra transitions and other effects.
Most importantly the software is available for free as a trial version. I’ve had mine for more than a month now and it doesn’t shut down asking for money. You can use it for free but can’t finish your work without removing Proshowgold attribution.
I hope that will help you.
    Good day and good luck.
