Slide Show Picture Quality
Happy Easter, everyone. I need to come back to a client with a recommendation as to how best to improve his picture quality concerning a video slide show I created for him about a week ago. Viewing the video on a computer screen, we both were more than satisfied with the video quality although the video had some noticeable flickering (crawling edges). After I delivered the video, he went out a purchased a DVD player (Phillips MCD288) and a 42′ Plasma Widescreen TV (Panasonic Th-42PD60). Viewing the same video on his new monitor, he is complaining about a super loss in picture quality. Once I got this news I researched the forum and learned how to reduce the “flickering” by checking the “reduce flickering” box under the “properties” settings. I think the adjustment helps but there is still some flickering and I don’t think this by itself is going to solve most of his problem. What should be my pixel aspect ratio settings for the photos? Right now the photos are set on “Square 1.0” but I’m tempted to change them to 16:9 Widescreen since the project is widescreen. The photos are about 1.61 MB each, with JPEG attributes 3872X2592X24. My first instinct was to recommend we reproduce the video in HD since I have a Blu-Ray burner. But, after investigated his new equipment, neither his DVD player or new ’42 TV are HD, although the TV (I am reading) has an HDMI interface. How can I help this guy get the best picture quality on his new TV system? Any and all input is more than appreciated. Sincere, regards to all.

The core of your problem lies simply in the
fact that those picture resolutions are too large
to be working with in vegas.
You need to use a image editor and reduce the
size(resolution) of these images first before placing
them in vegas…..
You can do a quick search in this forum for past posts

Thanks for the save, brother. I used IrfanView to downsize my photos to 1440 X 969 and learned, as part of the process, that it’s a really great tool. Specifically, I was able to downsize hundreds of photos with one click of the button using the “batch/conversion” option. In my case, I did NOT want to rename the files. Instead, I saved them to a different folder on my computer. This way when I opened the same project, Sony Vegas would prompt to “specify files in new location”. Once I answered that question for Vegas, Vegas would ask to use the same folder/location for all the rest of the missing files, which I replied “yes” (of course). In the end, I was able to redo my entire project in just a few short minutes (under an hour to be honest). So, if you were like me, sweating to have to do the entire project over again, and stressing that you would have to redo all of your pan and crop movements, just because you didn’t downsize your over sized photos from the start, here’s your solution. Worked great for me. Thanks again.
