I’ve been trying to find a transition for use between still photos that looks like a 35mm slide transition would be with a basic 35mm slide projector. I thought it would have been a standard transition effect, but haven’t been able to find one. Is there one in Premiere Pro and just called something else? If it is available in a package, I’m happy to buy it, but I got a feeling some type of wipe with a block of white in between is close, but I’m not real handy at this stuff. Has anyone modified parameters of an existing transition to get the effect? instructions/tutorials and the like are much appreciated.

In addition can anyone can point me to a good soundclip for a slide projector switching slides?

I know this isn’t the most creative and may be a bit chessey, but 1)I’m still a bit of Premiere Hack so I don’t pretend to be anything else, and 2)I’m surprising my father by scanning in all of his old trays of 35mm slides. It is taking forever to scan them (although my Epson 2450 is holding up pretty well). In any case, the slide projector type transition during part of it would be nostalgic for him and the rest of the family so I thought I would use it during one part.

Thanks in advance for your help!

John – you could build this a number of ways

eg a motion move or a DVE move. You may be able to build it with a slide /wipe transition.

I have all those in my system and I could build it with them but its hard to know what you have available to you. Check out transitions like ‘SLIDE’ first.

    Thanks Craig,

I’ve been experimenting with a PUSH transition where I insert use a 720×480 block of white to push the slide up, pause for just a moment and then the next slide is pushed down. Its the basic idea, but a little too clean looking for my dad’s old projector.

I wish I had a slide projector to watch so I could get a better feel for it. My sense is that I need a band of black because as the slide mount passes the light it would cast a shadow on the screen. And then the white and then the band of black would come down the screen as the next slide is loaded.

I have the standard package of Premiere Pro, but also have after effects. I’m willing to purchase add-ons if needed. So please feel free to recommend if necessary.

    Thanks again,
    John

    Hey John

A fun project and I like how you are approaching it…you are trying to imagine and recreate what the actual projector does with the slide.

Most people want a plug-in that will do this fun part for them. Good on you for creating the effect.

I have difficulty determining which effects / transitions came with PremPro because other effects etc also get installed by the likes of MATROX and After Effects ( both which I have installed) tho’ I would be very surprised if you can not create all this with just PPro.

    Suggest
Dirty it up with some scratches and a flare between slides. Make an Avi for the between slides effect. Move it with Motion control.

For fun ..put some slides in up side down and then fix them.

    Good luck.
