    Hi There,

I’m hoping to find out if there is a way to slice a PNG image into many, non-rectangular pieces. The design I’m working with features forward slanting tiles and I need to cut the image up and place each tile on its own layer for animating purposes in After Effects.

I attempted to slice it up in Adobe Illustrator by drawing lines across the image and then selecting everything and choosing “divide” in the pathfinder. I saw this done to a shape layer in a tutorial, but it didn’t work for me when using an imported PNG image. I thought maybe there was a solution in Photoshop.

I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate the shape of the tiles that I’m trying to cut out.

    Thank you!

Best option, as far as I can tell, is to recreate the image in Illustrator as a vector image, then you can slice it.
