Gentlemen, I’ve just encountered a problem with a new plugin bundle I’ve installed for my Audio Recording System. Because Vegas is set to scan the same folder where all my VST plugins are located, it now hangs on start-up due to the fact that the Slate Digital plugins are apparently not compatible with Vegas 13. Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to make Vegas ignore that plugin without having to remove it? It’s hanging on the plugin called VBC FG-Grey .dll. It may hang with other plugins in that bundle, but it’s impossible to know because I can’t get past that point. I need those plugins for my Audio Applications, but the problem is now I can’t open Sony Vegas. Any and all advice offered, greatly appreciated.

The easiest solution is to make a new VST folder exclusively for Vegas and only put known working plugins into that folder.

Thanks Mike, I will do that. I was hoping there would be a way to get Vegas to open temporarily, then un-tick the offending plugin from within Vegas? No way to do that?

Rob, Vegas gives you the option of a main VST folder and two alternate folders but no way that I’m aware of to ignore specific plugins within a folder.

Well I’ve just moved the whole Slate Digital folder out from my Audio Applications VSTPlugin folder, and somehow Vegas is still picking it up, and stop it from loading. How can that be?

I’d do a full computer re-boot just to clear out anything that may be stuck in memory somewhere.

Ya, I thought a re-boot would work too, but somehow it’s still picking up the Slate Digital plugins. Makes no sense to me. I’m either going to have to uninstall the Slate plugins or…………is there a way to open Vegas, by say temporarily removing ErrorChecking.exe so I can get into Vegas and stop it from scanning my VSTplugin folder altogether? This is turning out to be a bigger mess than I anticipated.

Ok, this is resolved. Turns out the Slate installer puts a copy of the .dll’s in the 64-bit side as well. In other words, C:/ProgramFiles/VSTPlugin folder. I had to remove it from there as well. Makes sense, just didn’t know the installer installs it there as well. So I’ll just direct my DAW to scan the new folder I created for Slate, and everything should work normally again. Thanks for your help Mike! Truly appreciated.

Ahhh, that makes sense and is something I never would’ve thought of. Glad you got it figured out Rob. Happy (audio) editing 🙂
