Skin Smoothing
I was just asking Oliver about this in the other forum and thought this would be a good time to ask the question here now that looks are coming online for X. Oliver had mentioned using MB Cosmo in a render test and I’ve been trying to figure out a solution to replacing EMA in FCPX:
“On the Cosmo note Oliver. I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with skin smoothing for my existing projects. I just got an email from Patrick Sheffield yesterday confirming that he was going to release a rewrite of EMA for FCPX. I’ve never used Cosmo, do you think it would be a good, immediate alternative?
One of my real, little frustrations with X development so far is the great and direct job they did with keying and masks in the Color Board, but I’m amazed that they don’t provide a way to attach a gaussian filter to the key. So simple to do and such an essential part of the process.”
Any thoughts on skin smoothing in X? Obviously EMA will be great when Patrick gets it rewritten, but in the meantime I’ve got a bunch of spots that need finishing and I’m not sure which is the best route in real time. I could always go retro and bring raw clips into Color and use the nodes to build a work around, but it feels so primitive now (not to mention time consuming).
Thanks
Jim
