Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Skimming / scrolling through video

  • Skimming / scrolling through video

In AviDemux I can skim / scroll through any length movie at almost any speed I want – 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour or anywhere between.

In Vegas, if I left-click in [the space above the time-markers) and move right or left, I can do pretty much the same thing, in either the timeline or the trimmer, but if I have set an in-point or out-point (or both), this scrolling eliminates the points I had set.

How can I skim / scroll through video without creating blue-colored selection [loops]?

(I searched this forum for “scrolling” and for “skimming” and found no relevant results.)

    You can:
A-Scrub through by clicking/holding play head (includes audio)
B-Scrub through by clicking/holding timeline indicator line
C-Scrub through using industry-standard J/K/L keys to go forwards and backwards.
D-Buy a Shuttle Pro or Bella Keyboard and use a jog/shuttle wheel.

Excellent! Sony Vegas makes me jump for joy!

I found pressing L twice makes it go faster, and LLL and LLLL faster still. I can hear the words up to LLL.
JJ, JJJ, JJJJ go backwards faster than ‘real time’.

Page Up /Page Down is like the right/left arrow keys except it SKIPS THROUGH at around 1/4 of the visible timeline (the time-span covered depends on how zoomed-in to the timeline you are).

    And I use up-arrow down-arrow to zoom in/out.

    Also,
    Ctrl-Right/Left Arrow – next marker/region
Ctrl-Alt-Right/Left Arrow – next edit point

Want to jump to an in/out point? (when selecting video – sorry there must be a better way to say that)
    Q, then Ctrl-Right/Left Arrow.

    GO TO: Ctrl-G
when the timeline is active (the cursor is on the timeline)
(see the bottom right corner of the timeline)
