  • Sketch and toon not visible through alpha channel

    Hi guys,

I have yet another sketch and toon alpha channel problem.

In my scene I have some wireframe type shapes which are rendered with sketch and toon. In the scene there are also other objects which are not sketch and toon. There is a lot of overlapping between sketch and toon materials and others and most of this works fine.

In my scene I also have some graphics which are on a plane with an alpha channel.

The problem is the sketch and toon doesn’t recognise the graphics on the plane but just the entire plane therefore hiding lines which I don’t want hidden.

Does anyone know a way of getting sketch and toon to recognise the alpha channel of the plane????

If anyone can make head or tail of that and thinks they may be able to help I will worship you for the rest of my days.

    Thanks,
    Ben

You need to give the alpha object a sketch render tag and uncheck lines and shading.

    Thanks for getting back Adam!

Unfortunately this still isn’t working for some reason. I’m sure you haven’t got time for this but I’ve uploaded a very simplified scene showing my problem.

If you get a spare minute could you give it a quick once over to see if you can see where I’m going wrong?
I’m sure there’s a simple solution but I’ve been fiddling about for a couple of days and just can’t get it to work, and deadlines looming.

Okay, I think I got it. You have your style tags set to mode>Replace All. That seems to override the render tags. Change the mode to “Use”. That’s half the battle. Then you need to go into your sketch materials’ render tab and change the mode from “Self” to “Scene”. In order to access that parameter you have to set the mode to Advanced in the material’s “Main” tab.

    Thanks Adam, you’re a genius!

I knew it would be a case changing a couple of settings but would never have guessed that.

You’ve saved me loads of render time!

    Cheers,
    Ben
