May 3, 2017 at 12:46 pmEric, it’s my understanding that Apple can read from but not write to NTFS formatted devices.
I wasn’t aware of the TV set limitation so that may be a concern. Gilles didn’t say if this was a requirement or not so the decision is his.
Pretty sure that Handbrake can get the file to under 2 gigs. Not sure how good the quality will be though ???? -

May 3, 2017 at 12:57 pmThanks Mike,
Yes, this will need to be read by TVs as well. SO Thanks Eric for the heads up on that one.I followed the handbrake links Mike and it seems like a lot of work/time to get it setup. I’ll see if I can stick with the core SVP12 features/offerings.
I’ll do a test render this morning and see what I get. I don’t yet have all the music for this documentary but I doubt this will increase the file size by much.

2. How large will this file be?
3. Would a 4GB USB stick suffice?
4. Is there a way to calculate the file’s size given the 720p and video length?”1. I use Vegasaur’s video for YouTube version 1.4 extension. It’s free
2. I got approximately 3.6 GB for a 1 hour finished project at 1080 using Vegasaur. 720p would be smaller. My source was 1920×1080 50i PAL. You can experiment with different quality settings of lower, normal (the default), higher or highest.
3. Yes
4. Probably is, but I don’t know how ☺I would do a test edit and render to confirm.

May 6, 2017 at 4:32 pmThanks for this Nigel.
I will definitely try the extension you mentioned. Downloading it now ☺
On your 1 hour 1080 video, which bitrate(s) did you use to get it to 3.6 GB?

I let the plug-in decide. I used the ‘normal’ setting. When I look at the file properties, it is 7855 kbps. Other files I produced for other work have similar data rates.

May 7, 2017 at 5:39 pmI think the reason people struggle to tell you some specific number is because compression varies due to motion and changes in the video work. Low motion will compress better, high motion will need more bit rate and increase the file size. Only testing will give you what you want to know.
Generally for 720p h264 distribution, you do not need more than 10Mbs. YouTube streams at 6Mbs. Create new profile from an internet profile, and adjust the bit rate to roughly match 6-10Mbs. Then do some testing on your own.
Here are Google’s settings for the various video sizes using h.264.

May 7, 2017 at 5:59 pmThanks Aaron for this info. Yes, I agree that size will depend on the variations of the visual.
You provided good info here.
For everyone on this thread, I dis some testing given the many suggestions here and I’m all set. A 4 GB stick will work at a birate which will provide good quality (6-10 as Aaron mentioned or even using other suggestions such as the Vegasaurus util. The latter produced a 2.6 GB file.
Thanks to everyone who contributed here. I am very grateful and very much appreciate the help..
Cheers,Gilles
