Hi. I am trying to use Compressor 3.0.4 to compress a .mov file using a h.264 setting for DVD STUDIO PRO, but by using only single pass (multipass checkbox option turned off).

The trouble is, once I uncheck the multipass box, I can no longer set bit rate. No matter what the bit rate controls are set for, Compressor renders out the clip at the same size and quality.

As soon as multipass is checked “on”, Compressor works as expected and the bit rate controls will affect compression size and quality.

Is this some wierd quirk for this setting?
If anyone can enlighten me on this I would really appreciate it!

First, are you trying to make an HD DVD? I ask, because h.264 is not used for creating SD DVDs.

I’m doing blu-ray only. I am comparing Compressor to some third party .264 encoding products. Hence the focus on .264 and .h264

DVD STUDIO PRO doesn’t support blu-ray anyway, and apparently won’t for a long time (S. Jobs showed little interest in blu-ray during his last public presentation, suggesting it’s a “world of hurt”).

Any idea why single pass setting breaks the bit encoding rate controller?
