Simultaneous firewire and hdmi/dvi preview output possible?
Howdy, I’m looking into the eventual upgrade to HD and have read several places that when color grading its best (when possible) to utilize atleast one output to an old school NTSC/PAL calibrated CRT production monitor (via firewire output, which I do have). The other being a full resolution 1080 HDTV/monitor. Seems reasonable, especially if your HD display isn’t of the professional grade which would be my case since I, like many, are on a tight budget.
My initial question would be that can Vegas actual output the Preview to both monitors; it seems I recall that the preferences (in Vegas 8) only allow you to select one output.
Secondly, I was planning on getting a one of those dual head cards that also has an HDMI output (yeah, I know, not its not aja/blackmagic, but atleast it is hdmi); I’ve read, those cards only allow for two of the 3 outputs to be utilized. My timeline is displayed on two LCDs, that’d mean I’d have to sacrifice one of my work displays. Maybe it is different on other cards and someone could confirm this and/or a decent solution.
3rd, of these graphics cards with hdmi, or even dvi with an hdmi adapter, the output must have no alteration or enhancement that would interfere with the ‘true’ Preview output from Vegas. How much more accurate is a professional aja/blackmagic hdmi card from a standard dual/triple head graphics card?
4th, is there a device like Spyder or Huey Pro that can calibrate your monitor for video production (SD and HD) work? I don’t recall seeing those as options with those companies, they seem to be primarily concerned with the standard work display and printed materials.
If anyone has any tips, resources or links regarding these concerns, I’d greatly welcome them.
