  • simulating “freeze transform” feature of 3D apps in AE?

Posted by Manojit Ghose on April 10, 2013 at 12:37 am

is there a possibility to make the PSR of a null to have (pseudo)zero values after i move/scale/rotate to desirable values.
essentially what i am seeking is to be able to simulate the “freeze transform” feature in 3d applications.

    thanks

You could add a new null. Hold shift while parenting the new null to the old null (this is new in Ae CS6) — this will copy the transforms from the original null to the new null. (Pre-CS6, copy and paste PSR.)

Now unparent the new null, then parent the old null to the new null.

Your original null will now have zeroed-out transforms because they are measured locally relative to the new null, which had matching transforms in world space.

    hi walter,

    thanks for your reply.
jusnt in case someone else needs this… i found a (sub)tool- “Zero” in the Duik toolset, which does what i wanted to the position in oneclick.

    thanks
