    Hey guys,

I’m trying to simulate an item rotating from photographs. I have photos of it every 15 degrees. Is there a way to generate a smooth rotation? I’ve been using the re:flex morph tutorial, but it’s kind of a sloppy cheat. If I can’t do it in After Effects, could someone recommend a 3D program that would work?

    Thanks!
    Chris

isn’t this the reverse of how they did the matrix effects? They used interpolation software. I don’t know if this will work, but this technique works for jumpy pans, tilts, dollies.

1.Put 29.97i video in new 59.94 “start” comp so that timewarp can access both fields.

    2. add effect->time->timewarp speed at 50%,

    3. make new “output” comp 99 fps and drop “start” comp inside it with timestretch 50%

    4. output “output” comp with same fps. It will maintain the same fps but will smooth out any jerky movements.

Well, I’m starting out with still images. I work for a photographer, so we only have stills, no video footage. We have the product at every 15 degrees in a rotation. Right now when I assemble it (each layer/shot gets a frame), it looks like stop motion. Is there any way to simulate frame blending between stills?

    Thanks!

here’s a project already setup that will smooth stop motion, pans, tilts, dollies. you have to have timewarp and output timestretch same number so its same duration. leave it at 18% or go 50% with frame blending for more frame blended look.

it’s setup for 29.97 but you can timestrech/tweak final output. what have you got to lose?

Thanks for this project file! Is there any way to download the POV Rock Rolling footage, or should I just plug in my own footage. I’m not exactly sure what you’re using here… Motion Sketch, Smoother, and Wiggler?

    oops, wrong one.
    here’s the right one.

and make sure you import your image sequence at 18fps. you can timestrech the final output to get the length you want.

Revision’s twixtor works really good. I just tested it.
timewarp wasn’t specifically designed for fps changing, unfortunately.

rename your files so they are sequential. eg. file.001 file.002 file .003
then import into AE as an image sequence. it’s using timewarp because it’s free and comes with AE, unlike revision’s twixtor which works waaay better.

if you have get artifacts, you can click create from one image. or mess with the error threshold and smoothing iterations. twixtor pro(which isn’t included, has a warping guide you can create).
download the twixtor demo and compare.
