I know that the smoothcam feature can stabilize a hand held shot, but is there a similarly quick method of taking a shot from a tripod and simulating a little shake of a hand held shot?

In my project I have to match some handheld shots with their reverse shots which were shot on a tripod.

I have fiddled around with the motion tab, zooming in about 5 percent on the static shots, then adding keyframes throughout the shot and adjusting the “center” on each keyframe, which can give it the unsteady movement of a hand held shot. Sometimes I get really good results but it’s very difficult and time consuming to get it to look right. It occurred to me that this might be a function that lots of people wanted and therefore there might be a built in effect that achieves this but I haven’t been able to find anything like that in the manual. Anyone know of one or have any pointers on how to achieve that look easier or better?

    Thanks

In Motion 3 under Behaviors you’ll find something called Wriggle. This adds motion to an object. I believe you can set it up in a way that the motion is random. I’ve used it to add flicker to lights and lens flares, but haven’t tried it to add motion to a regular layer.

Maybe the parameter behavior “Randomize” is closer to what you want.
