simple video out
I’m trying to use simple videoout to put final masters to DVCAM tape. This app can put extern tc in to my DSR 11, so I get a precise TC on the tape. My problem is that simple videoout stops everytime my screensaver is on or if the screen goes to sleep. Also i don’t work in background very vell.
Are ther an other program that works better ?

If the utility works for you, why not just turn off the screen saver/sleep settings? This is fairly typical for an editing system. Nothing sucks more than trying to dump a 3 hour project to tape only to have it cut out after 1 hour, also sleep/screen savers can interfere with long captures, renders, etc.

Do NOT use Simple Video Out to master to tape. It doesn’t output correct levels..the whites are too white, and the colors are all off. Use it to black the tape and get the timecode started, but then Edit To Tape.

It does not seem as a stabil program, it is easy to get masteres whit errow in. Ther for am I looking for at app whit same optinns, but whit eg. a drop out warning.

Yeah – I have never had an issue with “edit to tape” just remember you need 6 seconds of pre-roll (if I remember FCP defaults correctly). Plus you get all those cool black/bars options.

I can’t get my DSR 11 to hit the rigth tc start. It’s always 1-4 frames off. And i would be glad to save the cost of a DVCAM whit RS422. Are there any other way?

If the number of frames off was consistant, you could set a timecode offset, but otherwise, I think exact tc values for edit to tape are impossible when using FW. I may be wrong but a lot of people have had issues with this. Maybe a longer pre-roll? You may want to search the archives for this issue – I know it has come up before.

It is a problem whit firewire, but it was therfor I was hooping that i could solve the problem whit a app as simple video out.
