My wife and I run a small wedding videography business / we are using a dual 2.0 G-5 running final cut pro ….. we are in the market for a very simple video card that can play the sequence back onto a regular t.v. instead of burning it on to dvd and then playing it back onto a dvd player …..any suggestions???????

    Hi Troy

You don’t need to buy any additional hardware — you’ve already got everything you need!

All you need to do is monitor your output to your DV camera — and connect a TV to the AV out ports on the camera, as Final Cut Pro sends the signal back to the camera via FireWire.

You do need to enable external video monitoring, as follows:

Peter is correct. But, I believe that your camera should be just that, a camera. If you have the money, and it doesn’t take much, then invest in a video card like any of the ones (the ads) you see on this site. You can spend as little $300 and you’ll get the external monitoring you desire and the ability to output to another source other than your camera.

You can do a search on this forum for these cards and get many opinions on the choices available.

    Hi Bob

I had never thought of doing such.

I actually use a DSR-25 deck for my monitoring and output, and prefer to use my camera for shooting only.

Do you think there are benefits to getting an additional card in this instance as well?

If so, which card do you use?

    Thanks for the info!

    Regards
    Peter
