Which version of Vegas do you have,Pro or Movie Studio?

It should be the same three clicks:

1. Drag and drop your MP3 onto an audio track.
2. Drag and drop your background onto a video track and grab the end of the event that it creates with your left mouse and pull it to match the duration of the music.
3. Then just insert Text events on the track above the background track. (right-click then Insert Text Media)

If you have Vegas Pro the tracks will appear as you drag media into the timeline. That means you make have to use Insert | Video Track before you can add your text media. If you have Movie Studio the tracks will already be there for you.

bear with me, i’m stupid…

ok, i ddragged the mp3 there. that’s cool.
then i dragged the background image. it’s there for about 5 seconds. i can’t find anything to drag to extend it for the duration.
there’s nothing in the timeline that’s draggable. you mean to the left of it. is that box the events? that i can see, they’re only resizeable…

but it just kept going on for infinity.
in WLMM, there’s an option to “fit to music”.
does this have something similar?

and now how do i add text events to insert the lyrics?

Hover your mouse over the right edge of the event and click and drag to the right to extend the event:

No, you have to stop when you think it’s long enough. It should snap to the edge of the music to let you know.

Add a Video Track above the background (e.g., Insert | Video Track (Ctrl+Shift+Q)) then right-click on the video track and select Insert Text Media.

No but you can make the background as long or short as you want. If the background is a still image, then it’s length is infinite. 😉

When you drop the MP3 onto the timeline it has a definite length with a definite end. Just drag the background until it’s length reaches the end of the MP3.
