    For simplicity sake I am trying to create a transition between two images where the image on the lower layer appears in front of the upper image. The lower image should appear at a slow rate and increases over time till it is the only image visible (the lower image flashing in front of the upper image at an increasing rate till it overcomes the first image). I do not want any opacity level other than 0 and 100. So, i am trying to figure out a way to do this without editing back and forth between each layer, because this has to take place over tons of images. i was hoping there was some sort of way to do this with script or an effect.
    -sorry if this is a bad explanation, i can try to describe it better if needed.
    thanks,
    Peter Russell.

    p.s. if you couldn’t tell, I’m a newb 😉

    i’m not sure if i’m understanding you right, but can’t you just decrease the opacity of the top layer, revealing the bottom 1?

    It’s a weird effect, I think they used it in Easy Rider, some short flashes that get longer, untill where in the next shot.

    It reminds me of ‘Pulse Width Modulation’ in Analog Synthesis

    try this:

    t=effect("Slider Control")("Slider");

    cycles=10;

    (t%(100/cycles))>t/cycles ? 0 : 100;

    There’s a slider control on the top layer, and this is keyframed from 0 to 100, resulting in ever increasing pulses of 100 % opacity untill it stays at 100. The cycles variable defines how many flashes are done.

    I think this is exactly what you described, though I must say: the result it looks very weird.

    hey filip,
    that sounds like what i am talking about, but i can’t seem to get the script to work. i am plugging it into the opacity setting of an image(is that right??). and in order to enable the expression i need to apply slide control to the image. but nothing seems to be happening, i know i must be doing something wrong.
    thanks for your help,
    Peter.

    yes, use it for the opacity of the topmost layer.
    And apply a slide control to that smae layer.

    On this Slider control set keyframes for 0 and 100.

    Is nothing happening, visually, or are you getting an error ?

    nothing is happening visually (no error).
    I figured out the slider control because it was giving me an error before i applied it.
    sorry i think i double posted that last reply.
