I just wanted to know if after effects renders layers that are off screen? Like if I have complicated precomps that are not in view on the current frame does AE build the precomp for each frame even if it’s not visible on the current frame?
What about layers/precomps with 0% opacity?

Want to get a better idea before I trim and split all my layers… to try and reduce render time. Thanks!

I think I know what you are trying to say. Does it process the image off screen ..YES.
If you have a 2K image or precomp in a SD comp. After effects will process the entire 2K image (slowing things down).
If the Comp is 0 Opacity. And you have no plug ins on that Layer, it should ignore it.. But instead of making the comp 0 opacity, just turn the eyeball off for that precomp.
