Simple Render suddenly takes hours to render?!
Posted by Richard Garabedain on June 23, 2015 at 9:20 pmI have a 2011 IMAC Pro. I have always had pretty good render times. It has been a month or two since i opened up after effects at home, but a simple particle world fire animation with a 150×150 texture size is taking me 3 hours to render. sure it is a 3 minute video, but it looks like a 30 minute render tops. Any tips?….besides getting another computer!

June 23, 2015 at 9:25 pmtry cleaning out your disk / memory caches and export it to a separate Hard Drive than the one the file is saved too. Sometimes that works for me.
If you have an SSD in there, try saving it to that.

June 24, 2015 at 10:17 amWhat are your system specs and multiprocessing settings? Are you accidentally working in a Ray-traced 3D comp instead of a Classic 3D comp?

June 24, 2015 at 11:24 amHi Walter, don’t know if your question is addressed to me or to Richard but as I have sometimes the same problem your advice would be welcome. I’ve already changed the location of cache file and nothing else. Here are the infos you ask for:
Video Card and Disk and drivers

Media disk cache settings in AE CC2014 latest update

Memory and multiprocessing settings

I haven’t tested yet the change of the effect of the cache location. But yesterday I had a rather heavy project to render and it took 6 hours! Even for a retired banker this is a bit long !!!!LOL!

Thanks in advance for your recommendationsClaude

June 24, 2015 at 12:05 pmMaybe try reserving a little more RAM for other applications.

You should not have to manually purge memory before starting a render. In fact, if you’re previewing at the same resolution as you are rendering, NOT clearing memory should speed up your final renders as Ae will hold final frames in its green-line RAM cache.
