I have something happening that im sure has a quick and simple explaination i just dont have time to figure it out so thought id post it on here while i try. I Simply have a 3d layer that i have an expression slider on, and on the Z Rotation i have “time*expression slider”…and ive keyframed the slider from a huge number to 0..so from the beginning of the time line the layer is spinning incredibly fast, coming to a slow stop.

    Whats Happening:

at a little over a second in the layer starts spinning in the opposite direction. Here are the exact numbers if that helps. (also it changes directions in a VERY eased way if you know what i mean).

    Slider:
-at 11 frames in value is “952”
    -5:28 in value is “0”

and ive check the curves and this does happen linearly…i actually adjusted the curves for a really gradual stop.

    Rotation:

starts at “0” and at 1:04 it hits “1x 220.9” at which point it slowly stops and reverses making its way back to “0”

Now what Im thinking is that multiplying “time” by such a huge number the value gets really far ahead of itself so to speak in the start and as i animate that number back down to 0 it has to reverse to get back to its correct “time”….but how can i make it so it just continues in the one direction? thanks as always

Are you sure you need an expression for this?
It sounds like all you want to do is have a ramped rotation on a 3d object.
What you are getting is basic math yeh?
The decreasing ramp number of the equation overtaking the small increase in frame number. Essentially the ramp is going down to zero and at some point is going to return you to your start point of zero rotation.

Ya the expression def. isnt necessary, I just usually prefer expressions over keyframes…but more in this case it was my workflow that led me to using “time” since the animation didnt start out as a speed ramp, it was just continuously spinning at a steady rate of whatever i set the slider to…then i decided to speed ramp it.
