I just started using AE 7 and I find one behavior different than what i am used to…
when dragging a file into the timeline from the project window it used to drop in at the current time indicator marker..now when i drag the file to the timeline it always appears at the beginning of the timeline…I would like the dragged file to appear at the current time indicator!
i am sure there is a simple answer to this…
    thanks!

There’s an option for this in the Preferences. Under General, uncheck “Create Layers at Composition Start Time”.

This appears to be a new option, it wasn’t in 6.5. I actually think the new behavior is an improvement. I usually don’t pay attention to the CTI when I drop items into the timeline, so I often ended up with them starting at a different frame and had to fix it.

There’s also another way to drop your footage in at the CTI, even when the preferences option is on. When you drag the footage into the timeline, drag your cursor into the timebar area. You’ll then get a second CTI that will indicate where the in point of the footage will drop. It snaps to the timeline’s CTI, so you can easily match that point if you want.
