simple question
im sure this is an incredibly basic question, but im new to AE, and wanted to know how i can use an effect mid clip. im keyin an object and having lightning struck from it mid clip, but cant seem to figure out how to have the effect start in the middle, rather than from the beginning. thanks a lot!

Here are a couple of ways:
1) Edit>Split Layer. Add the effect to the new top splitlayer.
2) Add and Adjustment layer over the layer to be effected. Put the Effect on the adjustment layer and trim the adjustment layer to the period of time you want the effect to work. You might have to precomp the two layers if there are other layers that need to be below the original layer, layers below that you don’t want to be effected by the adjustment layer.
