I just switched to FCP. I made an animation in After Effects and output it with an alpha channel using the animation compressor.

When I bring it into FCP it won’t key. I’ve tried making the composite mode Travel Matte Alpha, & Luma. Nothing is working.

I’m sure this is a simple problem but again, this is my first show in FCP. I thought it would automatically key since it has an embedded alpha.

    Advice?

    Thanks,

    Clayton

It should. In the browser, find the column that says “Alpha” and make sure it’s set to straight or black and not none and then readd the clip to the timeline. What you set it to depends on how you rendered it out of AE.

What codec are you exporting with?

Make sure in AE when you add to the render queue that you go into the Lossless settings, and change the video output channels setting from RGB to RGB+Alpha, otherwise you won’t get an alpha channel exported in your file.
