Hi I have a Dell Precision T3500 64 bit WIN7 12 gb system with a striped 2 TB HD config. I typically have less than a TB of storage used.

I am in need of a very simple single external HD / USB connected / And Software solution … a once nightly backup which would allow me to retrive individual files if necessary.

I have loked at the Seagate 2tb drive with “easy-to-use Seagate Dashboard”:

Can anyone recommend this or another strategy. Just need the simplest backup possible that is proven to play well with WIN7.

    Many Thanks!!!!

Have you tried Windows 7 Backup?

(I try to avoid proprietary and uncommon backup software in case the vendor drops into obscurity and stops supporting it.)

Thats the direction I am headed for the reasons you mention.

Would this Seagate be a wise choice? Currently I only have USB 2.0 but could get a 3.0 PCI card…

I also use an Aluratek external dock for offline storage transfers and was thinking about just getting a bare seagate 1tb drive.

    Many thanks!

For simple file backup on Windows, I also like SyncToy from Microsoft. Makes retrieving single files even easier.

Alex, I purchased a Pegasus R4 and am very unhappy with it. Locks up my system, hangs.. Sent a report to Promise via the Promise Utility and they said there is a bad sector in bay 1. They offered to replace it. I’ve only had the array for one week. I asked them if they were coming out with a fix.. but there was no response there as it obviously is a connectivity issue. I’m thinking of sendign this back to B & H today and was looking at the Lacie or OWC arrays that have USB3.0 connectivity. What do you suggest? USB3.0 should be fast enough for animation and video editing in a RAID 5 configuration? thanks.
