Simple Gro Pro editing & save back to disk with Sony Vegas v11
Hi,
I am really new to video editing so thanks in advance for answering what might be very basic! I have spent quite some time cruising forums etc and not found the answers I need yet 🙁
I have some Go Pro (HD Hero 2) footage that is about 5 mins long. I just want to cut this down to 1 min and watch it on my laptop. So I imported it easily into Sony Vegas v11, managed to split the video at the appropriate points and now have the approx 1 min I want.
Now the problem is ‘saving’ the file. I have read that it needs to be rendered. So I have started with one of the formats that matched the project. However, when the rendering starts it takes about 1 hour for a 1 min video.
That simply can’t be correct. I have a simple video that I have done practically nothing to except shorten, how on earth does it take an hour to save the file!! 🙁
Please help me understand where i have gone wrong.

For very simple trimming, you are probably better off using one of the trim/cut/join type editors that get mentioned from time to time. AVIdemux and VideoReDo are 2 that I’ve heard of but never tried. These do not do any re-compression so should be very quick.
If you want to use Vegas (especially if you want to do more editing), make sure your project properties match the source media (eg 1920×1080 30fps), do your trimming/cutting, and then render to the Sony AVC format using the nearest “Internet” template. On new versions of Vegas, the Internet AVC templates may be under the MainConcept AVC format.
Those will give you fairly decent 30p HD video suitable for PC playback or youtube/vimeo uploads.
