  • Simple color corrector question

Posted by Nick Ryan on October 19, 2006 at 3:27 pm

Alright – this is as simple as it gets, but research on my part has generated nada. When I color correct a clip, I can color correct a clip that’s on the timeline and monitor my changes as I make them. But I can’t color correct a clip that’s in the browser and monitor my changes as I make them. I double-click it to load it in the viewer, click the color corrector tab, but my external monitor won’t show the changes until I click back on the video tab. Am I doing something wrong or am I asking too much?

    Thanks.

Is there a workflow problem putting the clip in a sequence first? I’d suggest that it’s a better workflow in general in any event.

Well, no… I suppose not. But if I know the clip needs correction, and it needs to have the same type of correction whenever it’s used, it just seemed like I good idea to correct the master clip. That way it would be done and I wouldn’t have to worry about pasting attributes and so on…

There is a way to do this… just take a shot from the master clip, put it in the sequence, then after correcting it there, save the color correction to your browser, then open the master clip again, and add it to it… from then on, it will edit with the CC filter attached.

You can add the clip to a new timeline, color correct it, then drag it back into the bin or NEW bin of color corrected master clips. Everytime you use it the CC filter will be on it.

Honestly though, just making a saved CC filter and using it for each clip (as stated above) seems the better way to do this generally, but perhaps this will help you.

If you tear the CC tab off of the viewer, then click on the video tab in the view so that you can see the video, your changes should be seen in your NTSC monitor in real time. I think. But it’s past 1 AM here in Moscow, & I’m on my 3rd beer…
