    Hey,

I was hoping for a little help with this annoying issue I have.

I am trying to log some footage from a miniDV camera, but I can’t get a picture to show up in the Log and Capture window. The timecode shows up and I can shuttle through the tape with Log and Capture, but no picture will come up.

All my settings are DV-NTSC for capture/import/etc. I deleted my preference files in case that was the problem, but it wasn’t.

I checked the wires and camera on another Mac, and the picture shows up fine. I even compared the video settings on the other mac to make sure mine were the same.

When I press ‘Capture Now’, just to see what happens, it says ‘No Video’. But when I use Print To Tape, it exports video to the camera. So it only works going out, not in.

Seems like a simple setting for capture is wrong, but it’s set to DV NTSC for capture/input using Firewire NTSC.

I’m using an Intel Powerbook with 10.4 OSX and 6.0.2.

I’ve captured using this camera and this computer before, btw.

Any ideas? I’m stumped. Thanks for any help.

Did you check the box next to VIDEO on the CLIP SETTINGS tab of the capture window?

    1) Reset the computer. Plug the camera in and turn it on before launching Final Cut.

    2) If that doesn’t work, shut down Final Cut and open iMovie. Open the capture window in iMovie and try to play the tape there. If picture shows up (just shows up, you don’t have to capture) then shut down iMovie and open Final Cut. I’ve sometimes seen iMovie “un-stick” that sort of problem when nothing else works.

The video tab is selected; I already tried restarting the computer and then FCP with the camera already on; and while it does play fine in Imovie, it still won’t in FCP. I’ve swithed ports, too. Any other thoughts?

Press play on the camera and relaunch FCP. While the camera is still running launch log and capture. Sometimes FCP get hung up and needs to see that video in actually present.

Hmmm, that didn’t do the trick. Weird thing is when I tried to reboot the laptop before trying this, it wouldn’t shut down until I unplugged the camera. It was hung up forever. When I pulled the firewire to my camera, bam, it shut down right away.

Just wondering if it’s a sign to reinstall OSX? I’m getting desperate. I do remember in the past I couldn’t mount a drive when the camera was hooked up for some weird reason. Anyone have this problem before? Or know the cause?

Well, I tried a different camera and it works fine on my computer.

The fact that my lil’ ZR40 works on other Apples and not mine made me think it wasn’t a camera issue. Pretty annoying, I even checked to make sure the camera was on ‘DV Out’ mode. No idea what that problem is. Oh well, thanks guys for the help, I appreciate it! I’m just going to borrow a camera for now.
