Hi, at the end of yesterday my client advised I will likely need to make a blu ray version of the 3 minute video I’ll output as a 1920×1080 h264 mp4 that they’ll play on screens via a USB stick – our usual route.

The project is in FCP x, my iMac is super-spec, inc Thunderbolt; I have authored in DVD Studio Pro for years, but I have no bluray authoring programme ( unless Compressor will ) or burner.

The bluray will be a simple autoplay, no menu.

Can anyone recommend my quickest, easiest, most reliable solution for Monday? What software and what burner.

FCP X could create a “viewing-copy” styled BD, but you wont be able to select between these two films within a menu.

they all need to be present in one! timeline.

if you would like to have a menu, where you can select one of these, you should use toast 11 + HD-plugin.

with toast you can create easily a blu-ray with a simple menu.

Thanks Danny, I only have one 3 minute film so no menu / chapters required. I’m not in the office to check, but thought FCP x only had sd DVD output – would I simply select the DVD option in FCP x Share menu, and burn on the Samsung bluray burner I ordered today?

    marc,
you should only use the share-function.

press the “add destination”-button and add the blu-ray to your share-option.

    far tooo easy 😉

Hi again – just looking at FCP X Share dialog – I see the Blu-ray option… the iMac’s internal SuperDrive is listed as an output device – does that mean the SuperDrive is able to burn a Blu-ray disc? I had assumed I’d need a dedicated external Blu-ray burner?

    Hi,
you can burn AVCHD-discs on DVD, but if you would like to have a dedicated blu-ray, you should buy a BD-burner.

    cheers
