  • Simple begin/end of layer question

    Hello,

Is there a way to split a layer and designate each layer as having an end mark?

In the picture here it’s one clip i’ve split up into 4 layers….the first layer and last layer are the beginning and end of the clip….you can see circled in red these arrows obviously designate the beginning and end of the clip even though it’s been split up into layers.

In all the clips except the last you can see circled in blue that at the point where I split them there’s still the greyed out area beyond where the layer was split….in the layer with the true end of the clip this make certain time effects behave differently. Is there an easy way to give this true end black marker designation to all the layers?

    Thanks!

The end mark shows the absolute end, the final frame, of a piece of timed media. These include video, audio, or composition layers. Stills, solids, shape layers, text layers, nulls, cameras, lights, adjustment layers, etc. never have these marks, because they are timeless.

The only way to get that mark on a piece of timed media is for the out point of the layer to be its final frame, which will obviously change the visible content of the layer, too.

Here’s a direct link to the section in the docs on trimming, extending and slip-editing layers:

if you precompose each split layer individually and select the options for ‘move all attributes…” and “adjust composition duration…” it will do what you are asking. it will also do the same to the in-points (not sure if that will be an issue for you).

unfortunately, it also moves your time effects to the new pre-comps, so those will need to get cut/pasted from the layer in each pre-comp onto the pre-comp layer in the main comp to work as desired with the time effects.
