    Hi folks,

I have some friends who are teaching a workshop involving oral historiography to college students with little or no knowledge of audio recording and editing. The students will be required to make a simple audio montage consisting of one or two tracks and simple cuts or cross fades. This isn’t a course on audio production/editing and there isn’t a need for audio processing or sophisticated plugins. Recording will be done with Zoom audio recorders.

So…, is there a free, down-loadable audio program for Windows XP the students could use to import audio file and edit a one or two track program to be burned to a music CD?

Thanks a bundle for any advice or leads this topic.

    thanks,

    Russ

    Ty,

Thanks so much for the quick response. My friends thought that “Audacity” might be too complicated for new users and the short time they have with the students. I’ll download it and check it out. Maybe I can come up with a quick tutorial for them.

    Many thanks,

    Russ

    Russ,

They all have some learning curve, but it’s free.

Well, it isn’t me using it, but I would agree with that sentiment. I did sit down with it for a while and it’s a nice piece work for the $. They are adopting it for use in the workshop.

    Thanks once again,

    Russ
