Has anyone here used the Silhouette Roto 2.1 plug for AE? I do a moderate amount of rotoscoping (maybe a few hours a year) and I think I’m about fed up with the manual “7 or 8 frames at a time” process. 🙂 How much faster is it using a tool like this as oppsed to an all manual process?

    Thanks,

    Shawn

I have never used Roto (I don’t need it) but I have never heard an ill word about it. From what I understand it is very good and one of those things you really need if you’re doing roto work, I’ve read many posts praising the software. The price recently came down too, so now it is not simply affordable, now it is a steal!

It appears that there’s a demo on their web site, give it a try and let us know what you think.

If you have any intentions of upgrading to AE 7, you may want to wait to see if they’ve improved the masking features at all. I’ve also considered buying Silhouette Roto, but I keep forcing myself to wait. It shouldn’t be too long

Since we don’t really know what’s in AE7 yet, I’d wait until there’s more info if you need the product now. Otherwise, I’d wait, because Adobe has acquired the licensing for Curious gFX, a solid rotoscoping tool, and rumors are that it will be part of AE7.

    Thanks everyone,

I downloaded the demo and I really like the tool. Great points about AE 7 though, I’ll wait and see if there’s any word at NAB 06. 😉

    Thanks,

    Shawn
